SEAN MORPHIS

Captain

Captain Sean Morphis grew up in Tehachapi, California, where he graduated from Tehachapi High School. After beginning his career in law enforcement, he was hired by the Bakersfield Police Department in June of 2002.

Captain Morphis has served in a variety of assignments throughout his career with the Bakersfield Police Department. He began his career working Patrol before being selected to serve as a Canine Handler in the Department’s K9 Unit. In 2011, he promoted to Detective and was assigned to several investigative details, including General Investigations, Minor Assault Crimes, and the Robbery/Homicide Detail. He promoted to Sergeant in 2013, where he supervised Patrol shifts, the K9 Unit, and the Impact Team before being assigned to the Investigations Division in 2017. As an Investigations Sergeant, he supervised the General Investigations Detail, Crime Analysis Unit, Burglary Detail, and the Special Victims Unit. In 2022, Captain Morphis promoted to Lieutenant and served as a Patrol Watch Commander before being assigned as the Training Manager in the Training Division. He later promoted to his current rank of Captain and now serves as the commander of the Community Engagement Division.

Captain Morphis holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from California Coast University and is a graduate of the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training Sherman Block Supervisor Leadership Institute. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, hiking, golfing, and serving as a high school football and wrestling official.
