TAMIA SMITH
Support Services Administrator
Born and raised in Bakersfield, Support Services Division Administrator Tamia Smith began her career in Public Safety in 1996 as a Clerk Typist assigned to the Records Unit for the Bakersfield Police Department. She worked in various positions within the unit.
In 2001, Smith was promoted to Police Dispatcher I, where she had the opportunity to work on a variety of assignments, including serving as a POST Basic Dispatch Academy instructor. It was then that she developed a love for training and mentoring newly hired dispatchers. As a dispatcher, she completed CTO training, the Academy Instructor Certification Course, the POST Instructor Development Institute Advanced Level, and became a Department of Justice certified CLETS trainer. She was eventually promoted to Communications Supervisor in 2009.
As a Communications Supervisor, Smith waa assigned to several collateral programs within the Communications Center. In 2015, Smith was appointed as the department’s ACC.
In 2020, Smith was promoted to Communications Manager. During her time as Communications Manager, she was a graduate of the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute Class of 448, received her POST Supervisory certification, completed NENA’s CMCP, and became a NENA-certified ENP.
In 2024, Smith was promoted to her current role, where she oversees the Support Services Division.
