THEODORE KING

Captain

Captain Ted King grew up in Bakersfield, graduating from North High School before attending Bakersfield College. After attending Bakersfield College, he joined the United States Army where he served with the 1st Armored Division and later in the European Command. After two deployments to the Middle East, he returned to Bakersfield and was hired by the Bakersfield Police Department in January of 2005.

Captain King worked his way through multiple assignments, including Patrol, the Special Enforcement Unit, and SWAT, before he promoted to detective and was assigned to the Robbery-Homicide Detail. He promoted to Sergeant in 2015 and was selected for assignments supervising Patrol, the Special Enforcement Unit, the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team, and the Robbery-Homicide Detail. Captain King promoted to Lieutenant in 2020 and worked as a Watch Commander on Patrol until the Department stood up the Special Operations Division later that same year, and he was selected as the first Special Operations Group (SWAT, K9, Bomb Squad, Crisis Negotiators, UAS Team) lieutenant. He promoted to his current rank in 2022 and commanded the Field Services Division until 2024 when he was selected for his current position, which is the Training and Logistics Division commander.

Captain King possesses a bachelor’s degree in business and a master’s degree in emergency management. Additionally, he is a graduate of the California Association of Tactical Officers Strategic Leadership Program and the Leadership Bakersfield Class of 2022. He enjoys getting out in our community, spending time with his family and friends, and activities such as hiking, scuba diving, hockey, and fishing with friends.
