Jeremy Grimes

Bakersfield Police Department

Born and raised in Bakersfield, Captain Jeremy Grimes began his law enforcement career in 1995 working in detentions for the Kern County Sheriff’s Office. He worked as a patrol officer and field training officer for California State University Fresno Police Department from 1995 through 1998. In 1998 Captain Grimes was hired by the Bakersfield Police Department and has worked on a variety of assignments. He currently serves as the Support Services Division Commander / Support Services Captain.

As an officer, Captain Grimes worked as a Patrol Officer, a Field Training Officer, and a Detective in the Narcotic and Major Violators Unit. In 2007, he was promoted to Sergeant where he worked in Patrol. As Sergeant, he also worked in Training and Logistics and as the Investigations Sergeant in Auto Theft, Financial, and then Robbery/Homicide.

In 2012 he was promoted to Lieutenant. As Lieutenant, he worked in Patrol as a Watch Commander, Investigations, and Operations and Support Services. In 2016 he was promoted to Captain where he worked as Support Services Captain from 2017-2019 and then the Operations/Patrol Captain. He currently works as the Investigations Captain.

Throughout his career, Captain Grimes has also served as a SWAT Operator, Supervisor, and Manager for a combined 12 years. He is also P.O.S.T. Certified in Management.
